Josh Brown owns Mayfly Nets and lives in Scarborough, Maine, with his wife Courtney and children, Ezekiel, Psalm, and Eilah. In this inspiring conversation, we will hear about Josh’s unique life journey. It is one of resilience, purpose, and healing. Born in Massachusetts but aspiring to call Maine home, Josh shares early experiences exploring the state’s lakes and rivers, which sparked his lifelong connection to the outdoors.
After leaving high school, Josh found his path in the trades and later joined the Marine Corps, where his deployment to Afghanistan shaped his life in profound ways. While his service brought purpose, it also came with challenges.
Following his military service, Josh transitioned into nursing, working in ER roles across the country before eventually finding a more balanced life and career at the VA. During this period, Josh began to embark on a new journey—getting back in his woodworking shop and launching Mayfly Nets, a heartfelt tribute to his grandmother.
What began as a therapeutic activity has ultimately grown into a mission to create beautiful handcrafted custom landing nets. Josh’s work with Mayfly Nets and Project Healing Waters combines his passion for the outdoors with his commitment to giving back, creating custom fishing nets etched with images of rivers and lakes that serve as both tools for anglers and symbols of his journey toward healing and purpose.
