John has worked as an upland hunting guide, as an independent guide, as well as working with some of the first name sporting camps in Maine; Weatherby’s, Lakewood camps, as well as King and Bartlett camps. John trains his own dogs for hunting and, like Michael, loves his dogs more than most people.

John is a master of all aspects of archery shooting and has worked as a product representative in the hunting industry for many years.

John is a master whitewater expert and has paddled all major rivers and creeks in Maine, as well as ascending the entire length of the Grand Canyon in a squirt boat. What is the squirt boat, you ask? Stay tuned as this is explained in the audio episode.

Guiding fly fishing trips and drift boats was a natural transition and inevitable conclusion, as John saw all of the advantages that these craft offer for guiding on Maine rivers.

John and Michael worked gunnel to gunnel for many years, both out of Aardvark Outfitters as well as at the Maine Guide Fly Shop in Greenville. John is a household name in the Maine drift boat community, and everyone that fishes the east outlet of the Kennebec has most likely encountered John.

In this interesting conversation, John and Michael share stories and themes about becoming a full time professional guide. His interest in constantly challenging himself to be better at his craft, and also John’s contributions as an innovator to the sport. By developing two iconic guiding inventions that are commonly used in the industry today.
