Michael’s story is similar to many of his guests. He’s a second-generation Master Maine Guide who has earned his reputation on the rivers in Maine over the past 35 years.
He has served as a mentor to many professional guides working in Maine. He’s an accomplished whitewater kayaker and has worked extensively in the whitewater rafting industry. This evolved into a mastery of running drift boats and other rivercraft on Maine rivers. He’s guided all of the major rivers in Maine, as well as in far away and exotic places like Patagonia, Chile, where he managed a successful fly fishing lodge in the ASUN region, using fly fishing rafts to navigate the uncharted rivers flowing out of the Andes Mountains for trophy trout.
MICHAEL JONES is a natural teacher and takes a keen interest in helping his guests become better casters and fly fishers by sharing his years of experience at the casting pond and on the water.
He served as the New England coordinator for Project Healing Waters, an organization dedicated to helping veterans heal through the restorative powers of fly fishing. He’s learned from and worked with many well-known leaders in the fly fishing industry. He’s a student of everything he puts his hand to.
He has studied extensively with the Federation of Fly Fishers and has won several regional fly-casting championships. He loves to guide on moving water for trout, salmon, smallmouth bass, and pike. He’s worked on the pro staff for two major drift boat manufacturers. He’s at home on the water. Whether on the oars of a drift boat or the tiller of a shallow water jet boat.
He knows where the trophy fish live and how to get to them. Michael lives in Naples, Maine, with his partner and podcast producer, Sheri Maines. They have two English setters and enjoy the Maine outdoors through all four seasons.
