EMILY BASTIAN is a founding member of the Native Fish Coalition. She served as the organization’s Secretary & Treasurer from its inception until April 2020, when she assumed the position of National Vice Chair
In July of 2022, Emily accepted the role of National Chair for NFC. Emily has worked in many capacities, mostly related to fly fishing and conservation, and we will share some of her interesting experiences in this episode.
Emily grew up in New Gloucester, Maine, with one eye on the water and the other on the woods that surrounded her home and her childhood.
Ever since she was little, she had longed to join her father on his annual fishing trip to Greenville with his brother and family friends. Her father, Larry, and uncle, Don Bastian, taught Emily to fly fish when she was only 8 years old.
Emily is a Registered Maine Fishing Guide, and outside of her fly fishing pursuits, she enjoys hiking, backpacking, hunting, and cross-country skiing.
Emily has been able to turn her lifelong love for the outdoors and fly fishing in particular, into a career and lifestyle.
Emily works at L.L.Bean and is the first woman to hold the prestigious position as the Assistant Store Manager of the flagship Hunting and Fishing Store.
Emily has taught fly fishing and archery at L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools and holds a second-degree black belt in karate.
We have a lot to learn about Emily and her work with her non-profit organization, as well as her career with L.L. Bean and her life of living and loving nature.
