EP10: Nate Bacon, the “Grand Laker Canoe Builder”

NATE BACON lives in Hamden, Maine, and is forging a unique career to become a legend in the Maine Fly Fishing world because of his family heritage and the unique history surrounding the Grand Laker Canoe design and development. The story is fascinating and will always be of great interest to the guiding and canoeing community in Maine.

The Bacon name has been associated with the Grand Laker Canoe and guiding in Grand Lake Stream for over 100 years. People have said that the Bacon family was the first to come up with the very first grand laker canoe.

Fast forward four generations, and you’ll find Nate, doing the same as his ancestors did. Nate Bacon is a registered Maine Guide, for both fishing and hunting and also has a passion for fine carpentry and woodworking.

Nate owns and operates Daybreak Adventures Guide Service out of the Grand Lake Stream region.  He is enjoying family life with his wife, Melissa, and their two children, Wyatt and Charlotte-Jo.  Nate enjoys upland bird hunting over his two French Brittany Spaniels, Scout, and Tilly.

Nate’s work with canoe building has been celebrated a lot in the media as of late, and you may have seen recent television interviews with Nate working out of his shop, demonstrating his craft.

Here is a list of the Lodges and Camps who regularly utilize Nate’s guiding services:
