Brad Burns is a Maine Fly Fishing Luminary and is considered a living legend in the Maine Fly Fishing Community. In the Striped Bass community, Brad Burns is a household name to all striper fishing enthusiasts up and down the northeast of the United States.
Brad grew up in a commercial fishing family in a small village on the coast of Maine. His focus then was saltwater fishing, especially surf casting for striped bass.
In his professional endeavors. Brad owned several businesses that were very successful in the office machine industry, selling photocopy and office machines as well as computer networking systems around the Greater Portland, Maine, Area.
In the late 1980s, Brad discovered fly fishing and became an expert at taking large striped bass on flies he tied at his vise.
His first book, the L.L. Bean Fly Fishing for Striped Bass Handbook, was published in 1998 and was followed by Fly Fishing Saltwater’s Finest, which he co-authored with his late friend John Cole.
His new love of fly fishing expanded to freshwater species like brook trout and arctic char and eventually to the Atlantic salmon, which has been his passion for the past twelve years.
As a longtime fisheries activist, Brad has served on a number of boards and advisory commissions; he was a national board and executive committee member of the Coastal Conservation Association and is a founder and former president of Stripers Forever. He is also the current president of the Miramichi Salmon Association.
Brad has received many awards for his conservation work from organizations like the Federation of Fly Fishers, Sage Fly Rods, and the Fisherman’s Conservation Association of New York.
Brad continues to be active in the conservation and fly fishing world and has a highly successful blog that can be found on his website at: www.BradBurnsFishing.com
Brad lives with June, his wife of 50 years, on the banks of the Presumpscot River (once a great Atlantic salmon river), where he still throws flies for striped bass.
