STEVE BERRY is a legendary Master Maine Guide who resides in Saco, Maine and has spent his lifetime guiding and fishing on Maine Rivers and the Canadian Maritimes and Labrador. Steve built a cabin on the banks of the Moose River in Rockwood, Maine, and operates the Moose River Guide Service.
Similar to a few other podcast guests, Nate Bacon, and Randy Spencer, Steve utilizes his preferred watercraft, The Grand Laker Canoe, to guide for Landlock Salmon and Native Brook Trout below the tailwaters of Brassua dam on the Moose River.
Fly fishing on the Moose River is a unique endeavor, and Steve knows the score: floating smelt patterns, nymph fishing, and almost impossible accents of the difficult rapids to access the best holes where the trophy Moosehead trout and salmon spawners love to hold on The Moose River.
I love to spend time fishing and hanging out with Steve on the river and in his cabin. If you are looking to hire a decorated guide for a day on the Moose River, Steve is your man! I learn a lot from Steve whenever we fish together and exchange ideas. We share a passion for fly fishing in Maine and Labrador, and Steve holds Native Brook Trout and Landlocked Salmon in the highest regard, as I do as well.
Steve is an engineer by training and has been responsible for sea testing some of the best battleships and destroyers to be commissioned by Bath Iron Works. If the ship does not pass the muster with Steve, the ship does not get released to the US Navy. Steve is highly respected in the maritime engineering community, and he will share some great experiences of his professional endeavors in our intimate discussion.
Steve is gentle, Steve is driven, and Steve will always take a back seat to his guests to ensure that anyone fishing with him or being guided by him gets the best opportunity to connect with a fresh, hot fish and become hooked on the sport, as he has.
